Water

Five years ago, traffic was the number one issue concerning citizens of Douglas County. According to a recent citizens survey only 17% of the population feel that way today. Replacing Traffic as the #1 issue is Water. Douglas County has over 20 water districts and thousands of rural well users. We must develop a comprehensive plan to address the emergency needs and long term requirements for all of these entities. Having worked to get voter approval for the Reuter-Hess Reservoir project I believe the answer is long-term storage and renewable water sources. Our dependency on aquifers has the primary water source has got to be reduced a renewable water resources identified. I am committed to developing affordable funding mechanisms so rural users and water districts can obtain needed water resources and infrastructure. In addition, we need to identify other storage options now and begin working the long process of approval. These three solutions will go a long ways to helping to resolve our future water needs.
